The "Pages" in the Tarot
Deck may also be known by other names (depending on the deck used).
For example, the Golden
Dawn Deck includes "Princesses" and the Shapeshifter's
Tarot includes "Seekers" in place of the "Pages" in
the Rider-Waite deck.
All Court Cards may be interpreted as referring to a person - the card
itself including information to identify the individual. Alternatively
they may be interpreted symbolically, in which case "Pages" are
often understood to represent "Messages" for
the Querent (which is another word for the "sitter", or person
receiving the reading).
The element of the Pages is "Earth" indicating something young,
growing, a seed planted. Pages often indicate children, but otherwise
they can represent the "Fool's" alter ego. That is, an adult
who is child-like enough might also be represented by a "Page" ("Princess",
or "Seeker").
In the case of the Page of Swords, the theme is developing one's own
personal/unique understanding of the world. This is in part an intellectual
realisation - yet also an experiential one.
The Page of Swords advises the seeker to consider the situation with
all aspects of oneself - both right- and left-brain, creative and analytical.
It is a card of much energy and as with many teenagers enthusiastic
about a cause, the power of intention may be palpable: Do not hold
