Nine of Pentacles

The Tarot Suit of Pentacles

The "Nines" in the Tarot Deck are the last of the single digit numbers. As such, they are cards of completion (as an aide-memoir think of the 9 months of human pregnancy). These are cards representing and achievement about which one can reflect on progress made, and any associated material gains or earnings.

Most Tarot Decks include a simple, positive, happy card in the Nine of Pentacles. The theme of this card is "fulness and fulfullment". Some decks illustrate it with images of a lone figure in a beautiful garden - perhaps a garden that she has created herself..

This card may be interpreted in many ways - especially when it appears as a richly symbolic image. However, all interpretations concern success - either that we are on our way to achieving success, that we should enjoy our success, or that we may have paid a particular price for our success (e.g. become rich but lonely).

Keywords summarising the possible meanings of this card include:

  • Achievement, Accomplishment
  • Femininity
  • Luxury
  • Material Comfort
  • Solitary Success
  • Solitary Wealth.
