12 - The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is Card No.12 of the Major Arcana of the Tarot but is actually the 13th card in this series because the first card of the Major Arcana is card no.0 - "The Fool".

The Hanged Man is probably the second most-feared card in the Tarot Deck (after the Death Card). Similarly, much of the fear associated with this card is based on mis-information or mis-understanding - also possibly due to the name of the card, or due to the way it has been depicted on some decks.
Some older Tarot Decks include gruesome or distressing images on The Hanged Man Card.
This practice is less common in modern packs such as the Rider-Waite and Robin Wood Decks.

The Hanged Man Card usually depicts a Man or Young Person who is suspended upside-down, often from a tree and obviously by conscious choice and without any discomfort whatsoever.

The theme of this card is "learning the natural laws of the universe" by changing ones perspective. Naturally, this may imply the need to take some time out for reflection.

Some specific terms associated with "Hanged Man" Tarot card include:
Change of Perspective
