Nine of Cups

The Tarot Suit of Cups

The "Nines" in the Tarot Deck are the last of the single digit numbers. They are cards of completion (as an aide-memoir think of the 9 months of human pregnancy). These are cards representing an achievement about which one can reflect on progress made, and any associated material gains or earnings.

In the case of the Nine of Cups many decks, including for example the Rider-Waite and Robin Wood Decks, depict a smug, satisfied character who is content with his successful outcome. This is often understood to bring tidings of "wishes granted" to the seeker, especially when this card appears in a "Future" or "Final Outcome" position in a spread..

This card is warm, positive, and reassuring, a welcome card.

Keywords summarising the possible meanings of this card include:

  • Satisfaction
  • Security
  • Sensual Pleasures
  • Success
  • Well-being
  • Wishes Granted.
