Ace of Cups Tarot Card

The Tarot Suit of Cups

The Tarot Suit of Cups is associated with the suit of Hearts in standard playing cards.

The "Cups" depicted on tarot cards are usually in the style of goblets, ceremonial, or communion cups (as above). There are meanings associated with each of the suits in a tarot deck, as well as the more specific interpretations associated with each individual card - and yet more precise meanings pertaining to particular cards in particular locations within spreads.

The suit of cups is associated with the element of water. It is also associated with the season of autumn (or "fall" in U.S. English), and with the direction "West".
Cups concern emotions, love, romance, range of emotions, mastery of emotions and feelings, and "gut reactions" that call upon our intuitive as opposed to intellectual development.

As with all "Aces", the Ace of Cups represents, a fresh start, new beginning, fresh opportunity, and positive creative force.
Aces in general herald new beginnings and opportunities.

The Ace of Cups conveys the theme of the gift and power of emotions. It may indicate the beginning of a new flow of emotions into our lives and is also associated with the emotion of joy and the inner peace that can come from warm relationships between friends and within families.

In many decks (such as, for example, the Rider-Waite and Robin Wood decks) the Ace of Cups tarot card shows a cup that is overflowing, representing the abundance of positive emotions signified by the ace of cups.

The Ace of Cups Tarot Card can also raise issues of nuturing both ourselves and others. When this card appears in a spread it may invite readers and sitters to identify how to nuture ourselves more successfully.
