E304(ii) is an additive approved by the EU (European
Union).
It is used as a synthetic antioxidant in food and drink products
The common name for E304(ii) is ascorbyl
stearate.
The antioxidant E304(ii) is a fatty acid ester of
ascorbic
acid and is produced by the esterification (production of
an ester by reacting alcohol and
acid) of stearic and ascorbic acid.
Examples of food/drink products that may include E304 (i) and E304
(ii):
Processed meat, cereal and margarine.
