E235

E235 is a food additive approved by the European Union (EU) and is used as an antifungal natural preservative in food products and also has used in medical treatment.

The common name for E235 is natamycin. It is also known as pimaricin.

E235 is an antibiotic formed by the fermentation of the bacteria Streptomyces Natalensis and Streptomyces Chattanoogensis. This can be sprayed or applied as a powder to cheese.

The chemical can be used medically to treat candidiasis (yeast infection).
Reports suggest that use of E235 / natamycin / pimaricin can cause nausea, vomiting, anorexia or skin irritation.
