| E233 is a food additive approved by the
European Union (EU) and used as an antibacterial and antifungal synthetic
preservative in food products. It is also used in veterinary applications.
The common name for E233 is thiabendazole.
Fruits can be sprayed or dipped in thiabendazole
to cover the fruit.
Removal from the human body: After hydrolysis of E233 in
the liver, any remaining chemical
is processed via the kidneys.
When used in the treatment of some medical conditions, almost one third
of patients suffered symptoms of nausea, vomiting, vertigo, diarrhoea
and even anorexia. E233 is banned in Australia.
Examples of food/drink products that may include E233:
Mushrooms, pears, bananas, oranges, potatoes, meat and milk.
