| E216 is a food additive that is no
longer approved by the European Union (EU) but was used as an antifungal and
antibacterial synthetic preservative in food products and cosmetics.
E216 is also known by the name Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate.
There are some reports that this preservative may cause allergic reactions
to the skin when used in cosmetics. E216 was removed
from the list of substances permitted in the UK after recent research
on its
effect
on
reproduction
in rats.
Examples of food/drink products that may have included E216:
Soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, baked goods and medicines.
