Ammonia is a chemical compound formed from
the elements nitrogen and hydrogen. It has chemical formula: NH3.
At
room temperature and pressure
ammonia is a gas. It is toxic (poisonous), and
corrosive to some materials, and has a strong and distinctive smell.
Major industrial uses of ammonia include the
production of nitric acid, fertilizers and other chemicals. Ammonia is
also used in toilet cleaning fluids and dry cleaning fluids. Ammonia solutions
are used to clean, bleach, and deodorize, to etch aluminum, and in the
manufacture of other chemicals.
