Abscess

An abscess is a collection of pus surrounded (walled-off) by damaged and inflamed tissue.

An abscess can occur anywhere on the body.
An example of an abscess on the skin is a boil - which is usually caused by the bacterium staphylococcus aureus.

Abscess is included in this section because it is a type of skin lesion. These are required study for many courses in aspects of health and holistic therapies, especially bodywork therapies.
