concerned with the study of the structure, functioning, and diseases
and disorders of the kidneys. Compare this with the related area

The word "nephrology" is derived from
"nephros" the Greek word for kidney.
Another
term that is commonly used in reference to the kidney is "renal," as
in "renal failure." This is derived from "renes", the Latin
word for kidney.
Healthy individuals have two kidneys and these important organs
perform several essential functions. The treatment of kidney
problems is complex and requires the knowledge of a specialist in this
