| Endocrinology is the medical specialty
concerned with the study of the endocrine glands and the substances they
produce, and also the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the Endocrine
System. Endocrine glands produce hormones that regulate many of the body's
functions.
The term "hormone" is derived from the Greek word "hormao" meaning 'I
excite or arouse'.
The functions of hormones can be categorised according tio their functions,
for example:
Reproduction
and sexual differentiation; development and growth; maintenance of the
internal environment; and regulation of metabolism and nutrient supply.
