Ophthalmodynamometry is
a technique for measuring the blood pressure
in the small blood
vessels of the retina of the eye.
An instrument is pressed against the eye until the retinal blood vessels
are observed collapsing. The pressure recorded by the instrument at that
time reflects the pressure within those blood vessels in the retina.
(However, there are certain disorders of blood circulation
in the eye in the cases of which the pressure in the vessels is reduced
- with the effect that they can be caused to collapse by a lower than
normal pressure on the eyeball.)
