Bronchitis (Acute)

Definition

Acute Bronchitis is one of two forms of bronchitis featured in this glossary, the other form being chronic bronchitis.
In both cases the meaning of the term "bronchitis" is inflammation of the bronchioles - see the page about components of the respiratory system for further information about bronchioles and other parts of the lungs.

Cause

Is caused by viruses or bacteria.

Effect (Symptoms)

Coughing

The production of mucpurulent sputum.

Narrowing of the bronchi due to spasmodic contraction.
