The right ventricle is one of the main chambers
of the heart. It is the lower chamber located on the right-hand side
of the
body (see the diagram on the right).
Both the right- and the left-ventricles
have thick muscular walls.
However, as the left
ventricle must work
harder than the right
ventricle in order to maintain the same (i.e. a
constant)
rate of blood flow through the heart, the muscular wall of the left ventricle
is considerably thicker than that of the right ventricle.
The right ventricle receives blood
from the vena cava via the right
atrium (and the tricuspid
valve), then pumps it into the pulmonary
artery ... from where it is
transported onto the lungs for oxygenation.
