The Calcaneous
is the large bone in the tarsus of
the foot. It is the calcaneous bone that forms the projection of the
heel behind the foot. It articulates with the cuboid bone (in front of
the calcaneous) and the talus bone (above the calaceous).
The location of the calcaneous is
indicated in the diagram opposite - where all the tarsal bones are shaded
blue to identify the group of them as a group.
See the Revision page about Bones
of the Foot, Ankle, and Lower-Legs for further information
including a larger fully labelled diagram. This may be particularly interesting
study/revision material for students following courses in Reflexology
because such courses generally require a good basic knowledge of the
skeletal structures of the hands and feet.
