The Subcutaneous layer is an important component
of the skin (also known as the "integument", or "integumentary
system").
The subcutaneous (or sub-cutaneous) layer of the skin
is located beneath the dermis.
“Subcutaneous” (or “sub-cutaneous”) is also
an adjective used to mean “beneath the skin”.
An example of "subcutaneous" used as
an adjective is the term "subcutaneous injection" which refers
to an injection into the sub-cutaneous layer of the skin.
