Lentiglobus is a rare abnormality of the
lens
of the eye
featuring an unusual curved bulge.
Lentiglobus may alternatively be described as "a
spheroid elevation" on the surface of the lens of the eye, (some
sources identify the posterior surface of the lens only).
However, because lentiglobus may affect either the front
surface (anterior) of the lens or the back surface (posterior) of the
lens, it may be classified as:
- Anterior lentiglobus, or
- Posterior lentiglobus.
Clarification:
Note the importance of the shape of the distortion
of the lens:
If the bulging of the lens is conical rather than spherical
the condition is called lenticonus.
(See also, for comparison keratoconus
and keratoglobus.) |

Lentiglobus is a rare condition that is usually congenital
(which means "present since birth").
