Jojoba Wax is one of many popular carrier oils
used in massage, aromatherapy,
and other body-work treatments.
Jojoba "Oil" (extracted from Simmondsia sinensis)
is a golden coloured liquid wax rather than a true oil, is extracted
by crushing
the seeds
of the plant to release a mixture
of wax esters.
The therapeutic properties of the external use of Jojoba Wax
are considerable and include properties thought to be beneficial for
all skin types, dry scalps, sunburn, psoriasis and eczema. Because jojoba
wax contains the anti-inflammatory agent myristic acid, it is considered
to be beneficial in blends for conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism.
Jojoba has also been found to have a molecular structure similar to sebum,
hence it is used in cases of people with acne vulgaris.
However, jojoba oil/wax should be treated with respect and caution
as there have been reports of possible allergic reactions, and the possibility
of contact dermatitis. Many professional therapists carry
out patch tests before using oils extensively on a person. This website also includes a general page about many Carrier
Oils for Massage and Bodywork Therapies. |
