Ablepharia is a noun that refers to the
lack, or reduction in size, of the eyelids.
Sometimes defined as the congenital (meaning since birth) absence of eyelids,
this developmental anomaly is very rare.
When ablepharia does occur the condition usually affects
both eyes, though occasionally only one. Associated and surrounding structures
may also be missing, reduced in size, or otherwise abnormal.
