Chalcosis is a medical term used to describe
the deposition of the element copper (Cu) in the tissues of the eyes.
Chalcosis generally occurs due to the presence of a
foreign body either of, or containing, the element copper becoming lodged
in the eye, e.g. tiny shards of copper striking and/or being brushed into
the eye(s) as a result of operators not wearing recommended eye-protection
while cutting lengths of copper pipe.
