Cryoretinopexy

The word-stem "cryo-" refers to the application of low temperatures e.g. freezing techniques.
It is useful to recognise this term as used to refer to low-temperature procedures.

Cryoretinopexy is the use of low temperature techniques to freeze weak or damaged areas of the retina (at the back of the eye) for the purposes of medical treatment.

Example of use: Cryoretinopexy is used in cryosurgery (that is surgical procedures carried out using extremely low-temperature techniques) for the treatment of e.g. retinal detachment.

Patients can generally obtain further information about this procedure from their ophthalmologist (ophthalmic surgeon).
