Cystitome

A cystitome is not an ophthalmic procedure but is included in the "Ophthalmic Procedures" section because it is an implement used in ophthalmology.

A cystitome is a very small specialised knife used to cut the lens capsule of the eye when performing an extracapsular cataract extraction (i.e. removal of the cataract-affected lens only, with the lens capsule left in place) or a capsulotomy. A cystitome is suited to this purpose as it is appropriately small in size and has a curved or hooked blade ideal for this particular surgical procedure.
