Episclera

The episclera is the outermost layer of the sclera of the eye.

(It may help to remember that the episclera is the outermost layer of the sclera by noting that the prefix "epi-", which is derived from Greek, means "on, upon, at, by, near, over, on top of". Hence, "episclera" means "on top of the sclera".)

The episclera consists of loose, fibrous, elastic tissue, that is highly vascular (meaning "related to or supplied with blood vessels").
