A Pinguecula is a common type degenerative
change in the conjunctiva
of the eye.
(Strictly, "pinguecula" is the singular
form of the noun, for which the pural is "pingueculae".)
Pingueculae are found most often in the elderly, especially
in hot dry climates.
A pinguecula apperars as a small, yellowish nodule or
even (eventually) a thickened deposit forming a whiteish-yellow triangle
on the conjunctiva at the inner- and outer- margins of the cornea.
Treatment is not always necessary but expert diagnosis is advised, in
part to avoid confusion with other more serious conditions that might
require urgent attention/action.
