This easy easy recipe cookery demo is a super-simple demonstration of how to cut-up and then slice a large (and rather clean-looking!) cabbage. It is shorter and simpler than most of the recipe demos featured here, perhaps because it isn't a whole recipe in its own right ... just a cookery skills or cookery techniques feature about cutting up cabbages.
Why bother ? Winter cabbage is often in season during March (in the UK at least) so health food enthusiasts keen to work with seasonal vegetables may be considering cabbage dishes at around this time of year. Cutting and slicing cabbage is, of course, only the first step when following a recipe that includes cabbage. It is well worth knowing how to do this part well and safely. Sharp kitchen knives are dangerous and the common-sense steps of starting by creating a flat surface onto which to place the cabbage when cutting thin slices may prevent accidents.
Got it ?
If you're not confident enough to cut-up a large cabbage right away then watch this cookery demo again. It is only 2.25 min (2 min, 25 sec) so doesn't take long. We also found it rather cheerful.
The next question is what to do with freshly sliced winter cabbage.
There are many recipes that include cabbage - from coleslaw to boiled cabbage, pickled cabbage, cabbage soups, and various other foods wrapped in cabbage leaves. More easy cabbage recipe demos will be added here over the next few weeks.
