This easy easy recipe cookery demo is a simple and clearly presented step-by-step description of how to cook seasoned kale as a side dish.
The introduction and general preamble before this demonstration really gets going is longer than we've seen in some other quick and easy recipe demonstrations but do bear with presenter Bindu Grandhi because the introduction does include interesting background information about what is meant by "the flexitarian way" (not entirely vegetarian as a diet and healthy eating philosophy, but this particular recipe is vegetarian and vegan).
It's great to find such a clear demonstration of how to cook kale because this is a relatively unusual vegetable, certainly in many parts of the UK. This video clip makes brief mention of growing ones own kale but you'd need to look elsewhere for further information about how to grow kale.
1 bunch of fresh kale
(strip leaves off stalks, wash and chop)
2 tbsp extra light olive oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
3/4 tsp cumin seeds
5 cloves garlic (peeled & sliced)
2-4 dried red whole chilli peppers
1/8 cup nuts, e.g. cashew or macadamia nuts
salt (to taste)
This recipe demo states the ingredients required with pictures of all of them. For those who appreciate a static written list of ingredients, we have also included the "Ingredients for Seasoned Kale" listed on the right.
Notice that many of these ingredients, certainly all the nuts and seeds, are dry and can be kept stored in the kitchen for a while - so once you're used to preparing this dish it may be a very simple matter just to buy some fresh kale and chilli peppers and garlic (if you don't have those at home anyway).
No special gadgets or kitchen equipment is necessary to follow this recipe.
The equipment used includes a large bowl (for the kale), some small bowls (for the ingredients for the seasoning), standard utensils such as wooden spoons, knives to chop the nuts and similar, saucepans and a serving dish.
At the end of this recipe demonstration we are reminded of the nutritional benefits of kale and why this is such a healthy vegetable to include in one's diet. Happy Healthy Cooking !
