The new Food Standards Agency Scotland (FSAS) Director, Professor Charles Milne,
FSA Chief Executive Tim Smith and FSA Chair Dame Deirdre Hutton visited the
Royal Highland Show on its 125th anniversary.
They took the opportunity to meet with a variety of Scottish stakeholders as
well as consumers, industry leaders and the media.
The FSAS's award-winning interactive kitchen and cookery theatre returned to
the show this year.
In the cookery theatre, chefs Christopher Trotter and Siobhan Ingram gave demonstrations
on how to dish up healthy meals to crowds of onlookers.
Staff from FSAS were on hand to advise visitors both young and old about healthy
eating and food safety. Assisting them in this task were a range of interactive
games, including Mike 'o' Wave and Lucy Lunchbox as well as an oversized fridge
and giant pink talking oven, aimed at helping families to make healthier food
choices.
Professor Milne also visited the Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus, jointly funded
by Scottish Government and FSAS. He mingled with some of the younger visitors,
who showed off their cooking skills while learning about healthy eating and
food safety.
