Yesterday, the White House announced that this Saturday, June 27th, will be
a "National Health Care Day of Service."
This effort has been organized by the White House grassroots arm, "Organizing
for America," and the announcement went out to its list of
grassroots supporters. The announcement encourages volunteerism in local communities
this Saturday on health care related activities and encourages volunteers to
build important relationships in their communities with health care professionals.
The announcement enables individuals to enter their zip code and access a list
of local volunteer activities in their community on June 27th. We encourage
the Federation to share this effort with your members and encourage participation
in any local programs.
This initiative is part of the White House's larger effort on volunteerism,
known as its "Summer of Service" initiative.
Through its Web site, volunteers can access information and suggestions for
volunteer efforts in their local communities throughout the summer. The AMA
encourages your organizations to initiate and/or participate in such local volunteer
activities throughout the summer. If your society does participate in this effort,
please alert us so that we can let the White House know of your efforts.
