Trichiasis

Trichiasis is an irritating condition in which eyelashes rub against the eyeball causing discomfort and, in some cases, ulceration of the cornea.

Possible causes of trichiasis include:

  • inflammation of the eyelids causing the lashes to grow in abnormal directions
  • scarring of the conjunctiva causing the eyelid to turn inwards.

Trichiasis accompanies all forms of entropion.
