Teleradiology

Teleradiology refers to the process of transferring (therefore both transmitting and receiving) medical images to and from distant locations using electronically, using the telephone network.
This requires use of a special link such as a leased line, ADSL, ISDN, or similar because more bandwidth is needed to transmit high-resolution images than is needed for standard voice telephone calls.

Teleradiology is not a speciality within medicine, but it is an increasingly important process as technology is used to offer more flexible medical consultation and treatment arrangements to patients. Teleradiology is also important for the cost-effectiveness of medical provisions because it can enable the most efficient use of personnel, saving the time and costs associated with moving medical experts from place to place unecessarily.

Note that teleradiology is related to radiology.
