The term purgative
refers to therapeutic agents (e.g. natural substances
such as herbs or oils, or pharmaceutical drugs) that stimulate evacuation
of the bowels. Another term used to refer to the same property of
therapeutic agents is laxative.
Examples of commonly used conventional medical laxatives include: castor
oil, bisacodyl, and senna.
