Methoprene (in Cigs)

Methoprene is one of the many chemicals found in cigarettes.

Methoprene is an insectide used to kill fleas and other insect pests. It is also (more specifically) defined as a larvicid. For example, it is used to kill mosquito larvae before they reach adulthood. It acts by disrupting the action of a growth hormone in certain insects.

Methoprene was first registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (US Agency) in 1975. Then in 1997 the EPA issued an unconditional re-registration of Altosid (brand name for methoprene) in all of its forms.
