Methoprene is an insectide used to kill fleas and other
insect pests. It is also (more specifically) defined as a larvicid.
For example, it is used to kill mosquito larvae before they reach adulthood.
It acts by disrupting the action of a growth hormone in certain insects.
Methoprene was first registered by the Environmental
Protection Agency (US Agency) in 1975. Then in 1997 the EPA issued an
unconditional re-registration of Altosid (brand name for methoprene)
in all of its forms.
