Keratoglobus is also known as Megalocornea.
Keratoglobus is a rare congenital disorder of the eye/vision
in which the whole of the corneas
thin and bulge forward.
(That this term concerns the cornea of the eye is indicated by the prefix
"kerato-" which refers to the cornea of the
eye, also applied to other terms in this section - as listed on the left.
That this term concerns "bulging" or "protruding"
may be infered from the suffix "-globus", which
means "round".)
Keratoglobus is also described as corneal fragility,
and as resulting in the affected eyes appearing as "spherical and
slightly enlarged".
In common with another corneal condition called keratoconus,
keratoglobus is usually diagnosed during the patient's
teens to 20s and may progress to its most severe condition during the
patient's twenties and thirties.
