A Keratectomy is a procedure in which
part of the cornea
of the eye
is removed.
(That this term concerns the cornea of the eye is indicated by the
part of the term "kerat-" which refers to the
cornea, and also applies to other terms in this section - listed on the
left).
A keratectomy usually involves removal of just a superficial
(surface) layer of the cornea.
It is possible to do this using an excimer laser.
