Iridoplegia is the term used to refer
to paralysis of the iris of
the eye.
This is usually associated with cycloplegia (paralysis
of the ciliary
muscle of the eye).
Both iridoplegia and cycloplegia can result from injury
to the eye, inflammation of parts of the eye, or in some cases the use
of pupil-dilating drops.
In the case of iridoplegia due to injury, the pupil
of the affected eye is generally large than usual and changes very little
- if at all - in response to stimuli such as light and drugs that would
normally result in changes to the size of the pupil.
