A Hair Follicle is an important
component of the skin.
(The skin is also known as the "integument", or "integumentary
system".)
More specifically, a hair follicle is the sheath of
epidermal cells and connective tissue that surrounds the root of a hair.
This is
composed
of two layers of
epidermal cells (called the internal root sheath and the external root
sheath) surrounded by a connective tissue sheath.
