| E203 is a food additive approved by the European Union (EU) and is used
as an antifungal and antibacterial synthetic preservative in food products.
E203 is also known by the common name calcium
sorbate,
and by the chemical name (E,E)-hexa-2,4-dienoate.
E203 is made from the neutralisation of Sorbic acid and is therefore
the calcium salt of Sorbic acid. No adverse effects have been found from
E203. The preservative originates naturally in the European Mountain-ash
(Sorbus aucuparia)
Examples of food/drink products that may include E203:
Dairy products, rye bread, frozen pizzas, dessert sauces, dried apricots,
fruit salads, gelatine capsules and sweets.
