Benzene (also benzol), a colourless,
flammable liquid (at a room temperature) is an organic chemical compound
whose formula is C6H6.
There are many health concerns associated with benzene.
Inhaling high levels of benzene can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid
heart rate, headaches, tremors, confusion, and unconsciousness; breathing
even higher amounts of it can cause death. Eating or drinking foods containing
high levels of benzene can cause vomiting, irritation
of the stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, rapid heart rate,
and death. Benzene is also a known carcinogen (that is,
cancer-causing substance).
