Aniridia is the medical term used in ophthalmology
to refer to the congenital (i.e. since birth) partial or complete absence
of the iris
of an eye.
It is a binocular condition, meaning that both eyes are usually affected.
Aniridia is a rare condition that does not always cause
lack of vision, but often leads to a number of secondary ophthalmic conditions
such as low vision, glaucoma,
cataracts,
etc..
