Adipose Tissue is an important
component of the skin.
(The skin is also known as the "integument",
or "integumentary
system").
Adipose tissue is found in the form of a thick layer under the skin,
and also around the kidneys and in the buttocks.
It consists of fibrous
connective tissue and fat cells called adipocytes. The functions of adipose
tissue include insulation and energy storage.
