Acetone (also known as propanone,
dimethyl ketone,
2-propanone, propan-2-one and
beta-ketopropane) is a colourless and flammable
liquid at room temperature. It is readily soluble in water and other chemicals,
such as ethanol and ether. It is also an important solvent in it's own
right. Acetone is a member of a group of chemicals known
as ketones.
Acetone is usually the main component of nail polish
remover.
It may also be used as a superglue remover.
Some health concerns have been expressed about the effects of acetone.
For example, some sources suggest that exposure to moderate-to-high amounts
of acetone can irritate the eyes and respiratory system, and make people
feel dizzy.
