A-scan

A-Scan is a shortened term that refers to an "A-scan ultrasound biometry".

An A-scan (or A-scan ultrasound biometry) is a routine diagnostic test used in ophthalmology. It involves examination of the tissues of the eye including the axial length (of the eye), using a high-frequency ultrasound technique.

This may be compared and contrasted with a B-scan (in which the eye is examined in cross-section using a high-frequency ultrasound machine).
